When is it not permitted to use "to verb"?
Hi everyone,
In order to improve my English (American ), I'd need some help and discuss this topic: when isn't it permitted to use "to verb-infinitive"?
In a French sentence, there're many clauses with an infinitive such as "C'est vraiment sympa de ta part de m'accompagner à l'aéroport !" or "Je vais partir aux Etats-Unis pour une semaine" or lots of others.
A problem common to any language is to use the correct preposition: "sympa de", "aller X faire", etc.
Something very nice in English is that most of the time, an infinitive is introduced by "to"! handy isn't it?
Is it a general rule (to have "to" before an infinitive)?
Is a French infinitive always translated into an English infinitive?
What do you think?
A yes-example: it's so kind of you to come to the airport!
A no-example: thanks so much for offering me this fab red sports car!!
In this last example, the pattern "thanks to verb" would be understood -of course- but using it would show weakness in your level.
When is it not possible to use "to verb" for a French infinitive?

Yes it is a general rule but an infinitive will lose its to when it follows certain verbs. These verbs are feel, hear, help, let, make, see, and watch.gerardM a écrit:
